Nurse Unseen is a feature-length documentary that explores the little-known history and humanity of the unsung Filipino nurses risking their lives on the frontlines of a pandemic, thousands of miles from home. The film unearths the colonial ties between the Philippines and the United States that have led to Filipino-American nurses becoming the unknown backbone of the United States health industry.

Learn the mostly untold history of Filipino American nurses, what led them to immigrate to the U.S., and how they risked their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic despite an increasing wave of anti-AAPI sentiment, in the latest from director Michele Josue (“Matt Shepard is a Friend of Mine”—CIFF38). —M.G.
When Covid-19 impacted America’s frontline healthcare workers, one demographic was hit especially hard: Filipino nurses. Nearly a third of all nurses who died during the pandemic were Filipino. For decades, Filipino nurses have been a staple of the U.S. healthcare system, and their hard work and dedication to patients have touched countless lives. Exploring the history of the Filipino nurses in the United States, NURSE UNSEEN takes viewers through colonialism, immigration, and the lasting legacy of the Filipino community in the healthcare system. A heartfelt and illuminating documentary, NURSE UNSEEN shares these largely untold stories from generations of Filipino nurses. —G.S.

OCA Greater Cleveland and the Filipino Young Leaders Program are happy to invite you to a Dinner Reception in celebration of the World Premiere of Nurse Unseen, a feature documentary about our Filipino American nurses.
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet members of the Nurse Unseen filmmaking team (Director Michele Josue, Producer Carlo Velayo, Co-Producer Anna-Marie Josue) as well as several protagonists featured in the film (Tiffany Olega, Shantell Pambuan, Kym Villamer, and Wilma Mendoza).
A Filipino buffet-style dinner will be provided. Desserts by Parilya. There will be a cash bar with wine, beer, and featuring a Calamansi Margarita signature cocktail.
