Community Leader: David Namkoong

The OCA Asian Pacific American Advocates Greater Cleveland Chapter regrets to announce the passing of one of its community leaders, David Namkoong. David was a longtime civil rights advocate, supporter and leader of OCA, and Aerospace Engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center. He was also active in many other organizations including the Asian Cultural Society, the first president of the Asian Pacific American Federation (APAF), member of the Mayor’s Asian American Committee, and served on the planning committee that built the Asian Evergreen Apartments on Payne Avenue in Cleveland’s AsiaTown neighborhood.

David Namkoong, age 92 of Shaker Hts., OH. Longtime Engineer for NASA, author, contributor for many local Asian American causes, Op-Ed contributing writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Beloved husband of Frances Namkoong (nee Seetoo); loving father of Stephen Namkoong of Lakewood, OH, Diana Namkoong of Highland Hts., OH and Kevin Namkoong of Shaker Hts., OH; dear brother of Haiwan Namkoong of MA and the late Gene Namkoong.

The family prefers that those who wish may make contributions in his name to the OCA Greater Cleveland Chapter, 2999 Payne Ave., #206, Cleveland, OH 44114. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 22 at Plymouth Church, 2860 Coventry Rd., Shaker Hts., OH 44120. FRIENDS MAY CALL AT BROWN-FORWARD, 17022 CHAGRIN BLVD., SHAKER HTS., OH ON FRIDAY, JUNE 21 FROM 4-7PM. Interment, Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery, Rittman, OH.
